Y6 Computing
Control
The children continued their 'Control' unit of work by building a range of Lego creatures and vehicles following a series of instructions. They then used a program called Lego WeDo to build up an algorithm for their constructions to carry out on the computer.
Video Reports
This half-term the children have researched, recorded and edited a video report about a famous volcano eruption of their choice. After recording it in front of a green screen, they edited it and then applied the finishing touches using the iMovies app on the iPads. I’m sure you’ll agree, they look very professional and there are a few budding newsreaders of the future waiting to be discovered in Y6!
Information Booklets
Based on our topic, the children spent a week researching a volcano of their choice, using text books and the internet on iPads. After collating a range of facts and figures, together with their own scientific knowledge, they put together a lovely information booklet in the ICT suite for the various categories, including images and diagrams.
Our Y5 Work
Pro-Bots and Information Guides
The children have had the opportunity to use Pro-Bots as part of the programming objective in the National Curriculum. They designed their own maps and programmed the Pro-Bots to see if they followed the route. As well as this, the children completed some fantastic information guides based on the River Trent.
Our Y4 Work....
Scratch
Here’s a screenshot of one of our Scratch projects, which we created to inform people about the sights of Rio de Janeiro. We used different code blocks, as you can see, and pieced them together to create scripts and algorithms.
LEGO Wedo Dancing Birds
Year 4 has been busy coding using LEGO WeDo models. After having lots of fun building our complex bird models, we explored the different commands that we could give the computer to bring the models to life. To make our birds dance, we instructed the computer using time and directional commands. We also added sound effects and text with loops to repeat our commands.
Unplugged Computing
We have been studying how to programme using Scratch. We started learning how to use this computer programme without using a computer - offline learning! Once we learned how to create simple algorithms, we were able to create our own quizzes and publish them online. Long live Scratch!
Probots Activate!
Here are some photos from our work with Pro-Bots during the year. We would like to thank Mrs Davison for showing us how to use them to create intricate designs on paper - we even learned something about geometry!
